How Applied Epic Helps Independent Agents & Brokers
The agency management system delivers a single view of the customer across lines of business, roles and locations and provides essential capabilities for each stakeholder within the business to more effectively manage customer relationships, sales opportunities, market appetite search, quoting, financial accounting, reporting, and policy and benefits administration. Using open and scalable architecture, it supports acquisitions and integrations of both Applied and third-party applications to ensure productivity and profitability as the needs of the business change.
Additionally, with the recent acquisition of Tarmika, Applied Epic has added to its portfolio, a leading and innovative single-entry solution to streamline the commercial lines quoting process.

Catalyit Team Review
Helping established agencies run P&C, Benefits, financial operations, and connected insurance workflows from one management system
Updated: August 2026
What we like:
- Broad operational depth: Applied Epic covers the core management system functions agencies expect while extending into sales, quoting, submissions, accounting, reporting, payments, and client service.
- P&C and Benefits in one system: Epic supports both Property & Casualty and Employee Benefits workflows, giving multi-line agencies an opportunity to maintain a more complete view of the client relationship.
- Strong insurance accounting capabilities: Accounting is built specifically around insurance agency operations, with newer capabilities such as Applied Recon extending automation into commission and agency-bill reconciliation.
- Quoting is moving closer to the AMS: Personal and commercial lines quoting can connect directly to Epic, reducing the need to move information between the management system and separate rating environments.
- A substantial connected ecosystem: Applied solutions, Ivans connectivity, APIs, and third-party integrations give agencies considerable flexibility to build additional workflows around Epic.
Things to consider:
- Implementation is an operational transformation, not simply a software change. Agencies should be prepared to make decisions around workflows, data standards, security, accounting, reporting, and training.
- The platform's depth may exceed the needs of smaller agencies. Epic is particularly relevant to mid-size, large, multi-location, or operationally complex organizations that can take advantage of its breadth.
- Configuration creates both opportunity and responsibility. Agencies can adapt Epic to different teams and workflows, but inconsistent configuration and process discipline can also create complexity.
- Understand the complete technology investment. Agencies should identify which capabilities are included in Epic, which require additional Applied products, and which depend on third-party solutions when comparing total cost and functionality.
Summary
An agency management system sits at the center of nearly every agency workflow. As an organization grows, the challenge becomes less about storing policy information and more about connecting sales, service, accounting, carrier interactions, reporting, and multiple lines of business without creating fragmented processes.
Applied Epic is designed for that level of operational complexity. It provides a common management platform for P&C and Benefits while connecting workflows for prospecting, policy management, quoting, submissions, accounting, payments, reporting, and client service.
Why should agencies care? Disconnected systems create duplicate work and make it harder to maintain a complete view of the client and the agency. Epic's value is its ability to serve as the foundation around which a significant portion of an agency's technology environment can operate.
What stood out during our review is how much more work Applied is bringing into or closer to the management system itself. Commercial quoting, Benefits workflows, dashboards, financial reconciliation, insurer connectivity, and workflow automation all reinforce Epic's role as an operating platform rather than simply a client and policy database.
Key Features:
- P&C and Employee Benefits management
- Client, policy, document, and activity management
- Insurance-specific accounting and financial management
- Sales pipeline and renewal management
- Personal and commercial lines quoting connectivity
- Role-based dashboards, reporting, and analytics
- Workflow automation and data prefill
- Ivans carrier connectivity, APIs, and integrated solutions
Best fit for:
- Mid-size and larger independent agencies needing substantial AMS functionality
- Multi-location or multi-department agencies that need standardized workflows and reporting
- Agencies managing both P&C and Employee Benefits
- Agencies that place a high value on insurance accounting and financial controls
- Growth-oriented agencies wanting to connect quoting, carrier connectivity, payments, analytics, client service, and other technology around the AMS
May not be ideal for:
- Very small agencies with straightforward workflows and limited operational complexity
- Agencies looking primarily for a lightweight management system with minimal configuration
- Organizations unwilling to invest meaningful time in implementation, training, workflow design, and ongoing system administration
- Agencies that won't use enough of the platform or connected ecosystem to justify the overall technology investment
Deeper Dive
The Problem Being Solved: Growing agencies often accumulate technology one problem at a time.
Sales may operate in one system, commercial submissions in another, Benefits in another, accounting in the AMS, payments somewhere else, and carrier information across multiple portals. Employees then become responsible for moving information between those environments.
Applied Epic takes a different approach by making the management system the operational foundation and connecting more of those workflows around it.
That becomes particularly relevant for organizations operating across multiple offices, departments, or lines of business. Epic supports organizational hierarchies, permissions, reporting, accounting, and workflows while maintaining a common client record.
For larger and more complex agencies, that centralized structure can matter as much as any individual feature.
Why It Matters to Agencies: The more systems an agency operates, the more important data movement and workflow consistency become.
Applied Epic's broader ecosystem gives agencies an opportunity to keep more work connected to the management system. Commercial quoting can occur within Epic workflows. Client self-service interactions can sync back to the AMS. Digital payments can connect to financial workflows. Carrier connectivity through Ivans can move policy information between agencies and insurers.
We also see meaningful value for agencies operating both P&C and Employee Benefits. Applied has continued expanding Benefits-specific functionality, including plan information, rates, coverages, eligibility, stop-loss, and TPA information. Keeping those workflows within the same management environment can give agencies a more complete view of relationships that cross business lines.
The financial side deserves attention as well. Applied Recon extends automation into reconciliation, an area that historically requires considerable manual agency effort.
What Stood Out to Us:
What stood out during our review is Applied's continued effort to move more insurance work into the Epic environment rather than requiring employees to leave the AMS.
Epic Quotes Commercial Lines is a good example. Commercial Auto joined the platform in 2026, expanding a workflow that already supports multiple commercial lines and carrier markets. Existing client and prospect information can prefill the application, helping reduce another source of duplicate entry.
The evolution of Epic Benefits also stood out. Applied has introduced more purpose-built Benefits workflows and automation, strengthening Epic's ability to support agencies that want P&C and Benefits operating from a common client and management platform.
We also paid attention to Applied Recon. Agency-bill reconciliation is now supported alongside commission reconciliation, with the system extracting and matching information before an employee confirms the results. We like the focus because reconciliation is a practical, high-volume agency workflow where automation can have a measurable operational impact.
Taken together, these developments point toward a clear direction: Applied is making Epic the place where more of the insurance lifecycle happens, while still supporting connections to the broader technology ecosystem.
Final Thoughts
We came away impressed by the breadth of operations Applied Epic can bring around a common agency and client record. The combination of P&C, Benefits, accounting, quoting, carrier connectivity, reporting, and workflow automation makes the platform particularly relevant as agencies become larger and operationally more complex.
The recent developments are also practical. Commercial quoting, expanded Benefits workflows, and reconciliation automation target areas where agency employees spend real time moving information or completing repetitive work. That matters more to us than adding technology simply for the sake of adding technology.
For an agency principal, Applied Epic is worth further evaluation when the goal is to establish a management system that can support significant organizational scale and connect a broader insurance technology environment. We would evaluate it based not only on the feature set, but also on whether your agency has the operational discipline and resources to take advantage of that depth. For the right organization, that breadth is a major part of Epic's value; for a simpler agency, it may be more platform than the organization needs.
