Up to 500 million people’s personal information from 165 companies, including financial data and home addresses, could have been stolen during a recent hack of data storage company Snowflake. While the extent of the hack and subsequent damage will play out over time, there was one very poignant aspect of the stolen data the hackers are using to determine who to target. They seem only to go after affected customers who did not have multifactor authentication turned on for their Snowflake accounts and didn’t update account passwords after previous breaches. In other words, they went for the easy targets.

Protecting yourself from cyber threats doesn’t have to be complicated. By implementing simple measures like turning on MFA, using strong passwords (consider using password protection software like RoboForm), and changing passwords regularly, you can significantly enhance your online security.
