Top Questions from Agency Owners About Completing the Agency Compensation 360 Study

The Agency Compensation 360 Study is in full swing and agency owners are joining in to help build the first-ever, state-specific compensation database designed exclusively for independent insurance agencies.

If you haven’t participated yet, now is the time. Completing the survey takes about one hour. Agencies that complete the survey by November 2 will receive exclusive access to the interactive results dashboard in November, giving you real compensation insights to guide smarter business decisions.

Below are answers to some of the top questions agency owners have asked about the study.

What types of questions will be asked in the survey?

The survey covers three main areas of information to build a complete picture of compensation across Texas:

  • General Agency Information: Questions about agency size, business mix, and other high-level operational details.
  • Payroll & Benefits: Questions about total annual payroll, agency-provided insurance (health, dental, vision), other benefits, and outsourced services.
  • Employee Compensation: You’ll provide details on employee pay structures.

For smaller agencies, you can enter this information directly into the online survey. For larger agencies (more than 10 employees), you can securely upload employee pay data using the Excel template included with the survey.

What information do I need for the Employee Detail section?

This section gathers data about all employees in your agency. You’ll be asked to provide:

  • A unique identifier (such as initials or an employee ID — not full names).
  • The employee’s role (from one of 12 role categories, such as Producer, Account Manager, Accounting, or HR).
  • Office ZIP code.
  • Employment type (full-time or part-time, W-2 or 1099).
  • Years of experience and years with the agency.
  • Compensation details (hourly, salary, commission, bonuses).
  • Any professional designations or credentials (CIC, CISR, CPCU, CRM, etc.).

Having this information ready before you begin will make completing this section faster and easier. For a detailed list of what to gather, check out our helpful guide below.

Who can participate in the survey?

Participation is open to independent agencies in states whose associations are part of the multi-state Agency Compensation 360 survey.

Each participating association has provided Catalyit with a designated agency owner or principal to complete the survey. That individual can either fill it out directly or assign another staff member to complete it.

If someone else in your agency will be completing the survey, or if you are an agency owner and can’t access the survey, email comp360@catalyit.com and Catalyit will update the access permissions.

How is my data protected?

Your data security and privacy are top priorities. All information submitted will remain highly confidential and accessible only to the Catalyit survey team.

  • No identifying information—such as agency name or respondent name—will ever appear in the published results.
  • All data will be aggregated and anonymized before analysis.
  • The survey platform is SOC 2 Type II compliant, a rigorous security framework used by technology and SaaS providers to ensure the privacy and protection of customer data.

In short, your information is safe, secure, and used solely to create valuable insights for the independent agency community.
